Standing bills: plan them once, expect them every month

16 August 2026 1 min read

Standing bills are boring on purpose. Put them in the plan first so payday stops feeling like a surprise movie.

Standing bills do not care about your mood. Fibre, insurance, school extras, medical aid gaps, streaming, gym, loan repayments. They arrive whether you remembered them or not.

Treating them as surprises is expensive. Treating them as boring is wise.

Build the boring list once

Write every bill that repeats most months. Include annual ones divided by twelve if that helps you see the true monthly load. Check bank statements for debit orders you forgot existed.

Then put those amounts in the month plan before flexible spend. Groceries and transport still matter. Fun still matters. Standing bills simply get a reserved seat.

When a bill changes

Update the list the same week. A fibre increase that you ignore for three months becomes a quiet leak. A cancelled subscription you still budget for becomes free breathing room you never notice.

Logging the payment

When it goes through, mark it. The goal is plan versus actual, not a museum of unpaid intentions. Budjinga recurring items help the same bills reappear each month without retyping, while you still log the real payment when it clears.

Boring bills, clear plan, fewer payday plot twists.
